Features: The outstanding works of the 2004 China Interior Design Competition are about to be unveiled to the public. Over one-third of the entries belong to residential architecture, demonstrating the significance of living spaces in our lives. This year's residential entries cover various aspects such as homes, apartments, villas, and showrooms, showcasing a wide range of content and diverse styles, with design quality improving compared to previous years. Even more encouraging is the emergence of a new generation of outstanding mid-to-young interior designers, reflecting the continuous growth of our design team.
From the works, we can see that designers' design philosophies are evolving, shifting from an excessive focus on spatial expression to a greater emphasis on functional use. This is a process of deepening the understanding of the essence of design. Interior design is essentially the design of life—it requires designers to be familiar with life, to adopt a human-centered approach, and to fully consider people's specific needs in the environment. Therefore, throughout the design process, there should be a deep sense of humanistic care. This care is not just superficial or formal; it must be reflected in every detailed aspect of the design, such as the rationality of spatial arrangements, the smoothness of circulation paths, the positioning and lighting range of each light fixture, the height of railings, the shape of door handles, the scale of furniture, and so on. All of these are essential considerations and areas of research for designers.
Thus, interior design should not merely pursue superficial changes in form, shape, color, and other aesthetics. It requires a deeper understanding of human ergonomics, environmental psychology, and other knowledge. Designers must immerse themselves in life, study life, and only then can they achieve human-centric design.
Especially in the design of residential spaces, it is even more important to let people feel the care of interior design for humanity. This will make our living environment increasingly beautiful.
