Ingres was a distinguished classical painter of 19th-century France. He studied painting under Drouais and moved to Paris at the age of 17, joining the studio of David, who was then the chief painter to Napoleon. Ingres was highly favored by David. In 1806, Ingres traveled to Italy and returned to Paris in 1824. Later, from 1834 to 1841, he went to Rome again, deeply studying the works of Italian Renaissance masters, particularly admiring Raphael. He excelled at capturing the aesthetic beauty of classical art, focusing on detailed rendering, and emphasizing a pure yet detached beauty. In his hands, classical art reached its zenith, making him truly the "forefather of classical art." Ingres' representative works include The Court Lady, The, The Turkish Bath, La Grande Odalisque, and others.
