Excerpt: Starting and Exiting Excel 2000
After installing the Chinese version of Excel 2000, you can start it. There are generally the following methods to start the Chinese version of Excel 2000:
· Click the Start button and select Microsoft Excel from the submenu under Programs.
· In Windows Explorer, double-click the icon of a spreadsheet file (with a .XLS extension) to start the Chinese version of Excel 2000 and open the file.
· Double-click the shortcut icon of the Chinese version of Excel 2000 on the desktop of the Chinese version of Windows 98.
· Add a shortcut for Excel 2000 to the Startup folder, so it will automatically run Excel 2000 each time you start Windows 98.
After starting, the installation program automatically adds the Microsoft Excel option to the Programs command in the Start menu. To create a shortcut for the Chinese version of Excel 2000 on the desktop of the Chinese version of Windows 98, follow these steps:
(1) Right-click an empty area on the desktop.
(2) Point to New in the shortcut menu and select Shortcut from the submenu.
(3) In the Create Shortcut dialog box, click Browse, find and double-click the Excel 2000 executable program icon (the Chinese version of Excel 2000 executable program, Excel.exe, is generally located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office folder).
(4) Click Next in the Create Shortcut dialog box.
(5) In the Select Program Title dialog box, you can modify the name in the Select a shortcut name text box (or leave it unchanged), then click Finish to complete the creation.
Afterward, to start the Chinese version of Excel 2000, simply double-click its icon on the desktop to quickly launch it. Figure 1.1 shows the shortcut icon of the Chinese version of Excel 2000 that appears on the desktop after completion.
If you want to run a program directly when starting the Chinese version of Windows 98, for example, to run the Chinese version of Excel 2000 at the same time, just create a shortcut for the program in the Startup folder (Windows 98 provides a Startup folder for such programs). Follow these steps:
(1) Right-click the Start button and select Open from the menu.
(2) In the Start Menu window, double-click the Programs icon.
(3) Click the Microsoft Excel icon (i.e., the shortcut icon of the Chinese version of Excel 2000), hold down the mouse button, and drag the icon to the top of the Startup option (a scroll bar appears when the Startup option is reached).
(4) When you release the right mouse button, select the command Create shortcut here from the menu that pops up.
(5) Double-click the Startup icon to open the Startup window.
(6) In the Startup window, you will find that the shortcut icon for the Chinese version of Excel 2000 already exists. After this, when you start Windows 98, it will automatically execute Excel 2000. If you no longer want it to run automatically later, you can delete the Microsoft Excel icon from the Startup folder.
To exit the Chinese version of Excel 2000, you can use the following methods:
· Open the File menu and click Exit.
· Click the Excel icon in the upper-left corner of the Excel 2000 window and select Close from the dropdown menu.
· Double-click the Excel icon in the upper-left corner of the Excel 2000 window.
· Press Alt + F4.
If the file has been modified, the system will prompt you to save the changes before exiting. You can then answer Yes or No based on whether you want to save them.
1.2 User Interface of the Chinese Version of Excel 2000
After starting the Chinese version of Excel 2000, the user interface will open. Most operations in Excel 2000 are performed on the user interface. Figure 1.2 shows a typical user interface of the Chinese version of Excel 2000, which mainly consists of the following parts:
(1) Program Title Bar
The program title bar includes system buttons and the title of the file name, as shown in Figure 1.3. It tells the user what file is being operated on. Pressing the system button will display the system dropdown menu. Double-clicking the system button will close Excel 2000.
(2) Main Menu Bar
The main menu bar provides commands for editing worksheets, as shown in Figure 1.4. The main menu bar may vary depending on the type of working file. For example, if the working file is a graphic, the menu bar will include a Chart menu. There are two ways to use the main menu bar:
· Use the mouse to click the menu: Move the mouse pointer to the menu name and click it. A dropdown menu will appear, and you can click a command in it. If you want to clear the dropdown menu, just click the menu name again or the worksheet area.
