Features: This book is a classic monograph on transport phenomena. It establishes theoretical models and fundamental equations for momentum transfer in fluid flow, heat energy transfer, and mass transfer, providing problem-solving methods. It comprehensively and systematically analyzes three interrelated yet distinct themes, laying a solid foundation for readers to delve deeper into transport phenomena. The book was first published in 1960 and the second edition in 2002. The new edition retains the original systematic framework and key characteristics but with significant adjustments and enrichments in content. The book is divided into three parts with 24 chapters.
Part 1 consists of 8 chapters, describing models of viscous fluids (including polymeric liquids, with a new chapter added in this edition), steady and unsteady momentum transfer in isothermal systems, and strengthening boundary layer theory and turbulent transport.
Part 2 consists of 8 chapters, covering mechanisms of energy transfer, velocity and temperature distributions in non-isothermal flow systems, and energy transfer in flow systems, with an emphasis on Fourier analysis for phase-change heat transfer and turbulent transport at high Prandtl numbers.
Part 3 consists of 8 chapters, first discussing diffusion theory and concentration distributions in binary systems, then addressing interfacial transfer in non-isothermal mixtures and mass transfer in multicomponent systems, and finally covering special transport phenomena such as thermal diffusion, membrane separation, and transport in porous media.
