This series systematically and comprehensively elaborates on and reflects the connotation and constituent system of Jingdezhen's ceramic culture, integrating historical significance, craftsmanship, aesthetics, and readability, making it highly valuable both academically and as a collectible. Jingdezhen Traditional Ceramic Sculpture is divided into six chapters.
Chapter 1 aims to explain the meaning of sculpture and ceramic sculpture, providing a brief introduction to the development history of Jingdezhen ceramic sculpture. For the ancient ceramic sculpture before the Qing Dynasty, it strives to be based on historical artifacts and unearthed relics, remaining faithful to history while avoiding subjective speculation.
Chapter 2 primarily discusses the characteristics of Jingdezhen ceramic sculpture from three aspects: artistry, regionalism, and craftsmanship, hoping to portray the "face" of Jingdezhen ceramic sculpture clearly and elegantly.
Chapter 3 introduces the classification methods of Jingdezhen ceramic sculpture works and the main features of each category.
Chapter 4 explores the relationship between Jingdezhen ceramic sculpture and traditional culture. From ten aspects—music, dance, drama, architecture, painting, calligraphy, literature, religion, folklore, and philosophy—it examines the origins and connections between Jingdezhen ceramic sculpture and these disciplines.
Chapter 5 focuses on the craft perspective, discussing the properties of the three major materials—clay, glaze, and pigments (colors)—used in ceramic sculpture and the principles of working with each material.
Chapter 6 primarily discusses the production techniques of Jingdezhen ceramic sculpture. These techniques are based on modern mechanical equipment and production conditions. From the creation of models, the formulation and preparation of clay and glaze materials, to the formation process, and the application and inspection of glazing, it introduces the artistic characteristics and process control of each stage in a combination of theory and practice. Therefore, these production techniques are highly operational.
