Wei Minghua was born in Yangzhou in 1949 and studied in Nanjing in 1965. He is currently the Director of the Yangzhou Cultural Research Institute, a Standing Committee Member of the Yangzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a distinguished expert among young and middle-aged professionals in Yangzhou, Vice Chairman of the Yangzhou Folk Literature and Art Association, and Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Yangzhou Quyi Association (a traditional Chinese musical drama form). He is committed to regional cultural research, with major works including The History of Yangzhou Quyi, Glimmers of Yangzhou Culture, Yangzhou Slim Horses, Yangzhou Anecdotes, Turbulent (), Jiangnan Stage, and Jade Purity's Splendor. He has received awards such as the Jiangsu Provincial Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award, the East China Tian Han Drama Theory Award, and the National Book Award of China.
