Features: This book provides detailed introductions and analyses of every famous painting included, narrating the stories behind these time-honored national treasures and inserting photographs and materials of related masterpieces. It offers rich resources and references for readers who love Chinese art. Here, we briefly describe several representative styles of landscape painting from that era. After the Southern Song Dynasty, the landscape painting style popular in the Northern Song Dynasty continued to flourish, primarily composed of the Li Cheng school and the Fan Kuan school. For example, the works included in this volume, such as Spring River Fishing Boats, Cold Forest and Returning Crows, and Autumn River Fishing Boats, all belong to the Li Cheng tradition, at least inheriting its legacy. Similarly, Snowy Mountain with Monastery and Cloud Pass and Snowy Trail are variations of the Fan Kuan school. Additionally, Willow Creek in Spring is a typical example of works inspired by Zhao Lingxiang. In these landscape sketches, we represent the styles of Li Tang, Liu Songnian, Ma Yuan, and Xia Gui. Moreover, Ma Yuan and Xia Gui themselves left behind many authentic landscape round fans, such as Cold Fragrance and Poetic Thoughts and Snow Hall Conversations, which are attributed to Ma Xia, at least bearing the inscriptions of Ma Yuan and Xia Gui. This volume also includes works like Watching the Tide and Willow Bank at a Distance, which resemble Liu Songnian's style.
