Foreword
Art activities enable children to coordinate their brains, eyes, and hands, perceiving the universal trajectory of human understanding of things through the process of experience-observation-memory-imagery-expression-creation. They can stimulate vitality, promote harmonious physical and mental development, and play an important role in early childhood education and intellectual development. At the same time, art activities can also cultivate children's good thinking qualities and foster their love for life and nature. In art activities, children recombine and express their different experiences and perceptions, giving them new meanings to express themselves and their beautiful, innocent inner world. This book selects key content from years of art teaching practice at the Xicheng District Children's Palace in Beijing. These guidance lessons focus on intellectual development, horizontally covering the use techniques of different painting tools, and vertically divided into four types of lessons: knowledge and technique-based, fun and intellectual-based, observation and memory-based, and imagination and creation-based. Different lesson types have different emphases—some primarily teach basic art knowledge and techniques; others combine intellectual games to encourage children to think creatively while painting; and others focus on training children's observation, memory, imagination, expression, and creative abilities. Each lesson in the book includes guidance notes, with teaching objectives, key points, and requirements. It can be studied in order from easy to difficult, or each lesson can stand alone based on the child's specific situation. Children's Art ABC aims to provide art references for primary school and kindergarten teachers and children, while also enabling parents without art expertise to use this book to guide and assist their children in learning to paint.
