Los Angeles Requiem literally means "Elegy for the City of Angels," it is an elegy for American individualism, an elegy for the "New World." In materialistically wealthy America, individualism has developed to this day, posing a serious challenge to traditional morality and values, and bringing more and more social problems. Kris laments the culture of the urban jungle: "Eleven million. What does that mean? The girl who is raped under the Hollywood sign is not your sister, and the young man lying face up in the bloodstained pool is not your son." People hide in their own cocoons, indifferent to the tragedies that happen to others, unaware that they might become the next victim.
