He is considered the foremost book collector in the new China. He served as the editor-in-chief of "Story Monthly" at the Commercial Press and taught at universities such as Peking, Tsinghua, and Jinan. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he held positions such as Minister of National Cultural Relics, Deputy Minister of Central Cultural Ministry, and Director of the Institute of Literature and Institute of Archaeology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This book is a bibliography of Zheng Zhenduo's collection (donated to Beijing Library). The entire work is organized and classified into Confucian classics, history, philosophy, and literature. The main categories of Xidi's collection include collected works of poetry and prose from different dynasties, general collections, ci and qu poetry, novels, tanqin, baojuan, woodblock prints, and various political and economic historical materials, covering a very broad range. Except for foreign books, which are planned for a separate catalog, and common old and new editions, the total reaches 7,740 species. Most of them are from the Ming and Qing dynasties, followed by handwritten manuscripts. Song and Yuan editions are the least, with only a few works such as Tao Yuanming's collected works, Du Fu's poems, and Buddhist scriptures. In terms of quantity and quality, it can be counted among the few outstanding private collections in the contemporary era.
