Su Lu Zhi Quotes

Author: Liang Qichao
Publisher:
Publication Date: 1997-02-01
Features: Nietzsche's major work, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, is highly appreciated by Lu Xun. Lu Xun initially translated it using classical Chinese, titled The Sayings of Zarathustra, which is the first three sections of the volume's Preface. The translation style is very archaic, seemingly imitating the Zhuangzi or Liezi. In terms of the original's ideology and literary style, it is truly akin to ancient Chinese "zi books." The Five Classics are not even in the same category. This is a Chinese translation. Later, Lu Xun translated it again using vernacular Chinese, starting anew and stopping at the first nine sections of the Preface, titled The Preface of Zarathustra, with annotations appended. It was published in the second volume, fifth issue of the New Tide magazine in 1920. After that, Guo Moruo published his translation, titled Zarathustra Says, which was also a thin volume, seemingly a partial translation. Later, Lu Xun entrusted Xu Fancheng to translate the entire four volumes and had them published by Zheng Zhenduo, in 1935. The book's title was determined by Lu Xun, and Zheng Zhenduo also wrote a preface, which is the one at the beginning of the book. In Zheng's preface, he mentioned that there was also a translation by Mr. Chu Zeng, but it was not convenient to publish two translations at the time, so it was not chosen. Additionally, there was another translation by Mr. Gao An, but it seems it was no longer in circulation later. So, aside from this translation, there are at least two other translations still in circulation.
