Publish Date: 2004-11-01
Features: This book is a supplementary teaching material for "Operating System Principles UNIX Edition" (abbreviated as "UNIX Experiment Edition"), containing three parts:
1. Exercises and Solutions: Various types of exercises corresponding to each chapter of the main textbook are provided, all accompanied by solutions for convenient student review.
2. Experiment Guidance: A rich set of experiments are included, divided into the following sections:
(1) Verification Experiments: Provide C and assembly language source files, allowing students to focus on understanding. (2–8 hours)
(2–8) Operating System Principles Training: Run the "Operating System Principles Training Experiment" software for hands-on experiments on storage management, process management, device management, file management, and job management. (8–10 hours)
(3) Dynamic Thinking Training: Utilize multimedia tools to find real-life examples and answer questions through multimedia animation creation, reinforcing the understanding of principles. This also serves as training for visual thinking, creativity, and design skills. This section provides student-designed experimental cases, detailed on the accompanying CD-ROM. (4–6 hours, extendable as needed for extra-curricular time.)
(4) Design Experiments: Three programming tasks are provided using C language. (2–4 hours)
(5) Application Management Experiments: UNIX resource management operations are set up, recommended to be conducted in a Linux environment. The purpose is to align teaching with international trends and new technologies, expanding students' knowledge. (2–4 hours)
3. Course Design Guidance: Three tasks are provided. The first course design task offers a multimedia animation demonstration of a virtual multi-program operating system's single-run activity, vividly and concisely showing how the various parts of the operating system work together. The second course design task provides a source program for a simulated time-sharing system implemented in C language. The third course design task offers a learning system for a simulated UNIX interface Shell, with explanations for all commands encountered.
He Minwei wrote the first chapter, the eighth chapter, the C and assembly language experiment environment, and the simulated time-sharing system course design of "Exercises and Solutions." Lü Yaoxing wrote the OS course design and provided three design experiment tasks. The rest was written by Li Linying.
The accompanying CD-ROM provides detailed technical guidance for experimental teaching and course design, featuring strong multimedia teaching characteristics. The "Principles Training Experiment" and "Course Design" sections include vivid multimedia animations.
In the "Dynamic Thinking Training" project of the Operating System Experiment, interdisciplinary multimedia technology lectures were conducted. This CD-ROM offers electronic teaching materials on multimedia technology and art lectures to broaden students' knowledge.
The detailed experiment guidance enables students to conduct experiments independently. The CD-ROM has been tested by students from several universities and is widely welcomed by instructors and students alike.
The accompanying CD-ROM was planned by Li Linying and He Minwei, with multimedia technology guidance by Yuan Chengwu, art consultation by Zhu Hui, and contributions from Yan Xiaoyang, Lü Jianhong in the early stages of CD-ROM development. It also involved the participation of Qian Yanhua, Li Yi, Luo Wenquan, and students from multiple computer science programs at the university.
Qian Yanhua wrote the C language experimental program for simulating operating system functional modules. Luo Wenquan wrote the C language program for simulating operating system functional modules for extra-curricular reading. Li Yi developed the learning system for the simulated UNIX interface Shell. Tan Yigang wrote the C language program for the simulated time-sharing system. The course design multimedia animation courseware was planned by Lü Yaoxing and Bai Ming and produced by Tang Shaowei, Xu Woshu, and Zhao Weiyun, with modifications by Chen Dan and Liu Xinglin. Lü Yaoxing also guided the OS course design and provided a summary.
Students who participated in the OS course design used Flash to design demonstration works after completing their C language programs and presented them. The accompanying CD-ROM selected their works and speeches, allowing readers to better understand the tasks and design better works.
The entire book and accompanying CD-ROM were compiled by Li Linying and reviewed by Professor Zhang Kunzang of the School of Information Engineering, Qingdao University.
From writing to publishing, this book and its accompanying CD-ROM embody the collective wisdom and strength, reflecting an innovative spirit.
