Accompanying the simple and unadorned text are a series of photographs. Each photograph carries a story that can be written down. Professor Jia's struggles, solitude, frustrations, and hopes are laid bare before the reader. At the beginning of each of the twelve life stages of Professor Jia, the compilers have quoted a short passage from his works (such as "Letter to Hu Feng," "Inside and Outside the Prison," "Let's Talk About Myself," etc.) as an epigraph, which allows readers to more deeply feel the life experiences and true emotions of Professor Jia during that period.
