Features: This series of textbooks aims to form the following characteristics:
First, strong series coherence. The content is comprehensive, concise, and self-contained as a series. It not only includes traditional intensive reading textbooks but also selections of articles, translation, oral communication, introduction to literature, and introduction to linguistics. They are interrelated yet avoid repetition.
Second, strong writing team strength. This set of textbooks is primarily written by teachers from Nankai University and Tianjin Foreign Languages University. These teachers have long been engaged in teaching, possessing rich teaching experience and broad perspectives. The textbooks adopt a dual responsibility system: single-volume editor responsibility and series textbook editorial board responsibility, ensuring the quality of the textbooks.
Third, strong practicality. The writing of the textbooks focuses on combining the characteristics of Chinese learners of Japanese and adult Chinese learners of Japanese. It absorbs the latest research findings from abroad while aligning with the actual practices of Japanese teaching in China. Textbooks that prioritize knowledge transmission are written in Chinese rather than simply edited, making them suitable for college students or individuals with equivalent proficiency in China.
Fourth, fresh and lively content. The textbooks strive to break away from the rigid and formal methods of previous textbooks, closely aligning with the learning characteristics of young learners. While emphasizing knowledge, they also enhance (fun and interest), making the learning process enjoyable and engaging. Learning Japanese varies from person to person, and textbook usage does as well. However, the era of mastering Japanese with only one textbook has passed. Under favorable economic conditions, having multiple textbooks allows for comparative learning, drawing from the strengths of each. With a solid knowledge base, there is more novelty, and the systematicity of knowledge is reinforced.
Advanced Japanese (Volumes 1 and 2) is a Japanese intensive reading textbook co-authored by teachers from Tianjin Foreign Languages University and the School of Foreign Languages at Nankai University, designed for senior undergraduate students majoring in Japanese. During the writing process of this book, we adhered to four principles. In selecting main text materials, we maintained the principle of keeping the textbooks up-to-date, ensuring that the articles possess both a sense of the times and practicality. Among the articles selected for this textbook, 60% are from the materials designated by the Japanese Ministry of Education in 2003. We emphasized language application skills to lay a solid foundation for comprehensive Japanese undergraduate studies. In terms of themes, we fully implemented the guiding idea of diversity, selecting articles mainly including biographies, novels, and reviews, making the textbooks more practical. We also adhered to the principle of innovation in cultivating practical communication skills while controlling the difficulty and workload, aiming for a level suitable for third-year undergraduate students of Japanese in ordinary universities. This book is the first volume, consisting of 20 lessons. Each lesson primarily includes three parts: main text, sentence patterns and grammar explanations, and self-challenge exercises. The self-challenge section provides self-assessment exercises in language, grammar, and reading comprehension, reinforcing the knowledge learned. For the convenience of users, we did not list a separate vocabulary table but marked the pronunciation and annotations of words in the text as side notes.
