Mom is going to Kyushu for an interview, and straight tree and his three-year-old sister Yuzuko are left with their grandparents who live in Kyocho Hanpu. On the evening of the day they arrive in Hanpu, straight tree encounters something strange: he sees a small chair by the moat, walking like a dwarf with a clatter-clatter along the road, talking as it goes. The next day, straight tree discovers that his sister Yuzuko is missing. When he finds Yuzuko in the old house where the chair was, he can hardly believe his eyes; Yuzuko is riding on the small chair, cheerfully circling around the room as if it were her own home. After talking to the chair, straight tree learns that an old man and a little girl named Ita once lived in this house, but they never came back. The chair spends its days searching for Ita, and Yuzuko usually calls herself Ita, so the chair believes Yuzuko is little Ita.
This is a story about war and peace. Following straight tree's steps, we enter the hot summer of Hanpu, step into a terrifying past, and enter a world shrouded in mist and mystery. Until the very end, we learn the great secret hidden behind it.
