Features: It is our greatest wish to compile a comprehensive and highly popular English-Chinese dictionary. For years, whenever I was doing English-Chinese translation or preparing teaching materials, several, even a dozen thick dictionaries would be placed on my desk. Sometimes, to find a single word, I would flip through book after book, yet still fail to find the answer, leaving me extremely disappointed. If there were a dictionary that could basically encompass all English vocabulary and have a moderate size, how wonderful that would be! In reality, the definitions in most English-Chinese dictionaries often have more detail than conciseness. A single word might be explained in ten, dozens, or even over a hundred lines, and all these definitions are somewhat related to the word's basic meaning. People use dictionaries for different purposes. Some are doing research and are not afraid of verbosity. But for most people, using a dictionary is to understand a sentence or a passage. To meet this need, we have compiled the "Holos English Dictionary." The purpose of this book: Integrate various information resources and collect all English vocabulary. For word definitions, provide sufficient basic explanations while omitting those that are not commonly used or can be inferred from the basic meaning. We hope that this "Holos English-Chinese Dictionary" can provide convenience for your English learning, English reading, English-Chinese translation, or teaching work.
