Vasiliy Klykovsky was born on January 1, 1942, in Warsaw, Poland, and currently teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. His poster creations embody the typical characteristics of Polish graphic design: vibrant colors, innovative forms, and a strong artistic inclination. As a poster designer, Vasiliy Klykovsky has won numerous international poster awards, including: the Gold Medal at the International Poster Biennial in Warsaw (1976) and the Silver Medal (1994), the Silver Medal at the International Poster Triennial in Sofia (1996), the First Prize for Poster Design by the United Nations Organization (1996), and the Silver Medal for Poster Design at the Chicago International Film Festival (1988). His works are collected by countries such as Poland, France, Finland, the United States, Japan, and Israel, and have been published in international graphic design magazines such as "Novum," "Print," "Graphic," "Interpressgrafik," and "Projekt."
Shoko Ishikawa defines design as: 1. Eternity; 2. Revolution; 3. Originality. I would like to recommend her design philosophy to Chinese design classrooms. This triangular concept embodies interpretations of technology, courage, creativity, and cultural heritage in design academia. You may not agree with my statement of elevating design to an academic realm, but the existence of design education itself is an acknowledgment of design as an academic discipline. Design is a systematic field with teachable and learnable history and theory, and it continues to evolve in countless directions. The pillar of academic research is the spirit of science. Understanding this spirit is akin to a designer recognizing that every design is first a job. This way, when you see a three-month graphic design crash course advertised in the newspaper, you might smile with a sense of understanding.
Hegemann, Yerdan, Les, Josel, Matis, and Professor Vasiliy Klykovsky are undoubtedly outstanding graphic designers of this era. This series of books introduces their understanding of design and their methods of design education. What’s more important is that it also introduces the creations of young designers influenced by them. I once again thank them for their assistance! I also thank the China Youth Publishing House for their assistance!
Postscript: Three people walk together, and there will always be a teacher among them!
