Features: The outstanding Russian writer Turgenev once said: "Be's fairy tales are so delightful, so captivating for children, and so eye-opening. From his fairy tales, one can sense the magic and charm that can also be found in folk songs. His fairy tales possess a blend of the fantastical and the mundane, the solemn and the playful – this blend truly distinguishes fairy tale creation from other literary styles." Be's fairy tales not only bring joy to children and inspire wonderful imagination but also instill in them a perfect moral upbringing, which is the highest realm that an excellent fairy tale strives to achieve. The Tales of Mother Goose draws heavily from French and European folk legends. Be did not merely collect and organize them; while preserving the vivid and humorous plots characteristic of folk literature, he supplemented and expanded upon them. He introduced detailed character portrayals and descriptions of life scenes, which were often lacking in oral literature, making the stories more intricate, rich in literary color, and thus more artistically compelling. Compared to Grimms' Fairy Tales, one could say this is a collection of fairy tales reimagined by the author. Taking the story of Sleeping Beauty in the Forest as an example. The children's literature critic Zhang Meini once made a precise evaluation: "'Sleeping Beauty' stories had long been circulating in Europe, with plots ranging from simple to complex, often yet rough. Be's Sleeping Beauty in the Forest, however, is like a finely polished piece of jade. Be, skilled in writing about magical transformations, not only made the fantastical plot more intricate and complete, with natural and seamless development, but also portrayed vivid characters and depicted richly realistic life details, making the story even more engaging. In the fairy tale, the young fairy replaces death with a hundred years of sleep to alleviate the princess's misfortune; she also ensures that the courtiers and animals sleep together so that the princess will not feel lonely or uneasy upon waking. These arrangements fully demonstrate the fairy's benevolent and kind nature. Additionally, the vivid and specific descriptions of the royal banquet scenes and other life scenes make the reader feel as if they are witnessing the events firsthand."
