Publish Date: 2004-10-01
Features: Environmental archaeology is a branch of archaeology. It is an emerging interdisciplinary field that arises from the intersection and integration of natural and social sciences. Environmental archaeology research both domestically and internationally is thriving. To meet the urgent need for cultivating talent in environmental archaeology research in China, the author has referenced similar textbooks from abroad to compile this book for readers. The book is divided into four parts: Introduction, Main Body, Methodology, and Special Topics. The Introduction covers the brief history, current research status, and development trends of environmental archaeology, as well as its disciplinary attributes, status, role, branches, related disciplines, fundamental principles, and idealized work procedures. The Main Body introduces the principles and content of environmental archaeology research at regional, site domain, and site-specific spatial scales. The Methodology section focuses on introducing commonly used methods in current environmental archaeology work. The Special Topics section discusses various issues in environmental archaeology, exploring the relationships between ancient human societies, economies, subsistence patterns, and cultures with the natural environment. This book fills the gap in domestic environmental archaeology textbooks and can serve as teaching material for faculty and students in relevant higher education institutions. Additionally, it can be used as a reference for researchers in archaeology, museology, social sciences, earth sciences, and environmental sciences.
