Features: This textbook (Second Edition) is designed for students with no prior knowledge. The selected vocabulary primarily consists of Level A words from the "Outline for Chinese Language Proficiency Vocabulary and Characters" published by the Office of the National Leading Group for Teaching Chinese to Foreigners. Based on the original textbook, this new edition has been revised in some lessons and supplemented with additional new lessons, expanding from the original one-volume set to the current three volumes. Following the principles of language learning and the guidelines of primary spoken Chinese teaching, and drawing on effective teaching practices, the following two writing principles have been adopted: First, shifting from the traditional word-centric approach (semantic to pragmatic) to a sentence-centric approach (pragmatic to semantic); second, while learning common sentence patterns and simple dialogues for primary spoken Chinese, not starting with extended passages. To implement these two principles, the textbook adopts the following writing format: Starting from the first lesson, students directly engage in speaking while learning and correcting pronunciation issues in the flow of language. Pronunciation and intonation remain a key focus throughout the teaching process, with relevant exercises designed accordingly. Each lesson's text section consists of dialogues and short narrative passages. Both dialogues and passages are accompanied by Chinese characters and pinyin. All dialogues and language points are provided with English translations as appendices at the end of the book. Annotations explain the language and cultural points in the text. Each lesson includes a variety of lively and diverse exercises, featuring both text and images, with communicative value. "Did You Know?" is a supplementary section designed to match the text and align with students' interests and needs, offering spoken Chinese tips or cultural knowledge, which can serve as a reference for teaching.
