The topics are directly derived from the lectures. The birth of this Collected Lectures on Humanities originated from an unprecedented humanities academic lecture series—the Lecture Hall of Centennial Celebration of Southeast University in the early 21st century, becoming a precious witness in the history of Chinese academia. These lectures embody the insights accumulated through years, even a lifetime, of research by the scholars. They often integrate thorough preparation with spontaneous improvisation, employing rich materials to explain complex and profound academic issues in an accessible manner, making for fascinating reading. Truly, it is a treasure trove of essence and diversity. To broaden the impact of this cultural spectacle and these resources brimming with insightful and perceptive thoughts, enabling more readers to engage in thinking, exploration, and exchange, the organizers established an editorial committee to compile this Collected Lectures on Humanities. When planning this series, emphasis was placed on its humanities content, and thus the selected lectures were strictly limited to the fields of literature, history, philosophy, and art. Centered around the lectures of the Lecture Hall of Centennial Celebration of Southeast University, it also includes some outstanding humanities lectures from Peking University, Tsinghua University, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It can be said that this Collected Lectures on Humanities embodies the academic essence of China's outstanding humanities scholars and contains their heartfelt hopes for the younger generation of scholars. Renowned sociologist, Professor Fei Xiaotong at the age of 93, happily accepted the appointment as the Chief Consultant for the Collected Lectures on Humanities series. The Chief Consultant, renowned national scholar, Professor Ji Xianlin of Peking University, sent a scroll with the words "A gentle rain nourishes the growth of talent" and a lecture titled Sakuntala delivered at Peking University. Renowned philosopher, Professor Zhang Dainian, provided his early lecture The Basic Spirit of Chinese Culture for inclusion in the series and was appointed as the Chief Consultant. Renowned scholar, Professor Qian Zhonglian at the age of 95, specially wrote the inscription "Nurturing talent and strengthening the nation, with a long-standing tradition" for the series. Renowned national scholar, Professor Rao Zongyi of The Chinese University of Hong Kong's Chinese Culture Center, as well as a group of distinguished scholars including Professor Wang Yuanhua, Professor Zhang Xinggang, and Professor Tang Yijie, were respectively invited to serve as consultants for the Collected Lectures on Humanities.
