Features: English Learning was founded in 1958; it is China's first English learning magazine. From its inception, English Learning has established a publishing style that is rigorous yet lively, combining taste with fun. While helping readers improve their English proficiency, it also introduces them to the social and cultural aspects of foreign countries. It aims to truly become readers' "lifelong companions in learning English and a dazzling window to the world." Over the past 40 years, English Learning has grown alongside generations of readers, earning a high reputation among teachers, students, and English enthusiasts in all walks of life. The magazine's peak circulation of over a million copies at its height is a testament to this. In 2002, English Learning published a four-volume series of selected works spanning 40 years, titled How High Is the Threshold of English? (Advice from Renowned Experts), Traces of Time (Current Affairs), Temperament and Life (Beautiful Prose), Words and Meanings (Language and Culture), Tell Me a Story (Fairy Tales), The Rainbow of Technology (Technology), and A Glimpse of Foreign Scenery (Exotic Landscapes). The four-volume series, with its high-quality content and elegant design, won the favor of readers and was reprinted more than ten times within a short year. During the selection process for the four-volume series, the editors shared a common feeling that the essence of English Learning's 40-year glorious journey could not be fully captured in just seven books. Due to thematic limitations, many wonderful articles had to be "painfully" cut and could not meet readers. In light of this, we have compiled the second series of the Selected Works of English Learning Over 40 Years, also consisting of seven volumes. Trendy Styles (Fashion Trends) records the nuances of trends over the past 40 years, allowing you to experience the changing tastes of people's lives through the decades; The Scenery of Love (Love) enumerates the tender and poetic aspects of love; Shining Sentences (Elegant Proverbs) collects countless brilliant and profound words from the magazine over 40 years, adding depth to your understanding of life; Take Care of Each Other When Together (Workplace Manners) focuses on workplace life, helping you understand the sweet and sour of career experiences; following the simple, natural, and melancholic words in Growth Chronicle (Youth Memories), you can revisit your innocent, joyful, and bewildered youth; Touching Thoughts (Philosophical Sketches) presents exquisite English that conveys profound philosophical insights, offering inspiration and enlightenment as you enjoy reading; Colorful Leaves (Miscellaneous News) is like a small kaleidoscope, through which you can see the fascinating details of the world around us.
With this series, we pay tribute to the predecessors who cared for the growth of English Learning, such as Wang Zuoliang, Xu Guozhang, Zhou Jueliang, Liu Shimu, Liu Chengpei, and Xiong Derui, as well as all the editors and authors who have contributed to the magazine. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the readers who have given us their great support.
