Features: This textbook (Second Edition) primarily selects vocabulary based on the "Outline for Chinese Language Proficiency Vocabulary and Characters" published by the National Office for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, focusing on Level D vocabulary. It also includes some frequently used and easily confused Level C vocabulary, as well as certain common idioms. The new edition of this textbook is divided into four units, with a total of 12 lessons. Each lesson has approximately 1,800 characters and around 35 new words. Between each unit, there is an introduction related to spoken language, designed to broaden students' knowledge and deepen their understanding of Chinese spoken language.
This new edition retains some of the topics from the original textbook but focuses more on concentrated character relationships and more appropriate language expressions. Most of the lesson content has been thoroughly updated. The lessons follow a typical Chinese family as the main storyline, unfolding the plot in a play-like format. The content covers various aspects of Chinese families and society. The scenarios and characters selected in the book emphasize both typicality and diversity, with each character having distinct personalities, backgrounds, experiences, and language styles. The dialogues are designed to be vivid, natural, and appropriate to the characters' identities. Learners can immerse themselves in Chinese families and society through the textbook, deepening their understanding of Chinese society and learning authentic spoken language.
This new edition of the textbook highlights practicality in exercise design, strengthening both input and output training. It focuses on training extended expressions, systematically arranging a substantial number of narrative, retelling, lecture, and debate topics to enhance students' ability to express themselves fluently and coherently in longer passages. The new edition also includes a new exercise on sentence pattern expression, divided into three parts: "Text Part" focuses on understanding the text content and applying text vocabulary; "Sentence Pattern Part" selects more complex sentence patterns from the text for structural training; and "Discussion and Survey" emphasizes extended expression training, giving students ample room for creativity.
The textbook is accompanied by a CD, published by Peking University Audiovisual Publishing House.
