Features: This book collects a large amount of research findings on variant words in China, includes all variant words from the Modern Chinese Dictionary, examines the historical evolution of these variant words in the Great Chinese Dictionary, and also investigates the diachronic and synchronic relationships between different morphemes that form variant words. The book will conduct detailed research in the following aspects:
1. It employs exemplary written language materials for research, selecting the Modern Chinese Dictionary as the research object, which holds significant typicality. Previous studies have not focused their perspective on the Modern Chinese Dictionary.
2. It establishes a corpus to propose linguistic norms based on the facts of linguistic changes, using part of the People's Daily as the corpus. This allows the standardized variant words to be validated by contemporary language.
3. It adopts computer technology, making selections after conducting large-scale surveys and statistical analyses of the corpus.
4. It emphasizes systematic methods. When standardizing variant words, it not only focuses on the standardization of individual words but also considers the problem from a systematic perspective, studying variant words within a word system, thereby making the standardization of variant words more robust.
5. It adopts the method of exhaustive enumeration to standardize common words and compound words.
6. It conducts data analysis, examining the results of computer statistics.
