Features: To improve the English proficiency of master's degree candidates, strengthen the training of listening and speaking skills in foreign languages, gradually address the problem of "not understanding, not being able to speak, and difficulty in direct communication with foreigners," and better meet the needs of China's reform and opening-up and further expansion of foreign exchanges, the Ministry of Education has decided to increase the assessment of listening in the preliminary examination of the national master's entrance exam foreign language test starting from 2002; and to increase the assessment of speaking skills in the final examination. The National Master's Entrance Exam is designed to recruit master's degree candidates for universities and research institutions. Among them, Japanese is implemented through a national unified examination. Its evaluation standard is the level that non-Japanese major excellent undergraduate graduates from universities can achieve, or above, to ensure that admitted candidates have a certain level of Japanese proficiency, which is beneficial for universities and research institutions to select the best candidates in terms of professionalism.
