The one who bravely spoke these words was H. H. Ellis (Henry Havelock Ellis), a renowned British authority on sexology. In the history of modern sexology, Ellis was a towering figure in sex psychology, second only to Freud. He was the first to point out that gender determination is related to chromosomes in cells. His textbook-like work, Psychology of Sex, is considered a landmark in the field of sexology. In the book, Ellis comprehensively examined human sexuality, lifting the heavy veil of mystery surrounding human sexual phenomena and highlighting the importance of natural and healthy development in sex for human progress. British philosopher Bertrand Russell, in reviewing the book, said: "There are countless books on the subject of sex, but few are truly trustworthy. This work is truly outstanding and deserves admiration. We can confidently recommend it to everyone." Ellis was born in Croydon, near London, in 1859. At the age of seven, he accompanied his father, a captain of a sailing ship, to South America. At sixteen, he went to Australia with his father and taught at an elementary school. In 1880, he returned to England and studied physiology at St. Thomas's College. In 1890, he obtained his medical degree and began practicing medicine, but soon abandoned the profession to dedicate himself to sexology writing and research. After the publication of Man and Woman as part of the Modern Science Series in 1894, he began writing the famous Studies in the Psychology of Sex. In 1933, Psychology of Sex was published. In 1904, Genius and Heredity was published, in which statistical data on the relationship between parents' occupations, ages, and genius children is still widely cited today. Ellis's research was extensive, covering literature, sexology, and genetics. His writing style was unique and elegant, daring to address socially taboo and avoided issues, making him popular among readers worldwide. In 1939, Ellis passed away at the age of 80, having dedicated his life to sexual reform and freedom. To this day, while most educated people in China are familiar with Freud and even his theories, few know or know little about Ellis. Such a scholar with significant contributions to sex psychology is met with neglect in China, which seems unfair. For this reason, we have selectively extracted the essence of Ellis's sexological theories and compiled them into this book, aiming to let more people understand his theories and, based on that, gain a deeper understanding of sex, human nature, and society, thereby improving their quality of life. "From a broad perspective, we can say that the enlightenment and education about sex are more important for the lives of modern civilized society than in any other era." "Sex, as a physiological, psychological, and social phenomenon, accompanies everyone and profoundly affects their health, happiness, and personality." (Quoted by Ellis) Perhaps, The Happiness Code is the golden key that opens the door to your perfect and happy life. "Sex is an unextinguishable, eternal flame that nothing can put out.
