Features: Children's literature has four functions: education, cognition, entertainment, and aesthetic education. If you think about it carefully, it is actually these four elements that accompany children as they grow, gradually maturing into adults, then into good people, and eventually into good people who can integrate into society, productive members of society, and people who are useful to everyone. Conversely, if some or all of these four elements are missing, then children's growth would be incomplete. If this is accepted, then it becomes very important and necessary to evaluate a book from the perspective of these four functions. Pipil the Little Demon highlights the educational function. Look, the Coco family is so optimistic and open-minded that they interpret every malicious act of Pipil in a kind way, ultimately taming Pipil and inspiring him to resist the evil old witch—his grandmother! What is the source of this transformative power? It comes from kindness and optimism. This subtle approach illustrates a lesson: it sows seeds of kindness and optimism in the hearts of young listeners, making them feel that they want to be such people—good people. In comparison, The Fragrant Bread Kingdom is much simpler. It just tells stories, weaving imaginative narratives filled with childlike fantasies, like bread spirits kneading variously colored hair into the dough to bake fragrant food. This seemingly plain storytelling style becomes very appealing to children because of the fantasy elements. Every story in this book is unique, making it worth reading for parents and also for reading aloud to children. This is crucial for their growth.
