Features: This book has been published for nearly 10 years. In the past decade, China's papermaking industry has developed rapidly and undergone significant changes. First, the output of paper and paperboard increased from 17.25 million tons in 1992 to 37.80 million tons in 2002, with a number of large-scale pulp and papermaking plants with an annual output of over 1 million tons emerging. Second, pollution control has begun to show results, with thousands of highly polluting small pulp and papermaking plants being shut down; breakthroughs have been achieved in black liquor extraction and alkali recovery technologies for wheat straw pulp and other materials. Third, a large amount of waste paper is used for pulp and papermaking, with the proportion of waste paper in total pulp used in papermaking increasing from around 30% a decade ago to 47% in 2002, and production scale continuously expanding while the variety of paper products being manufactured has also increased. Based on these changes and referring to relevant materials, the author has revised and supplemented the original content of the book. Any inaccuracies are welcome to be pointed out by readers.
