Features: World War II was the largest conflict in human history. In this war between the fascist axis powers and the anti-fascist alliance, the number of troops and weaponry deployed, the vast scope of the battlefields, the novelty of combat forms, the magnitude of losses, and the depth of impact were unprecedented. Nearly 60 years have passed since World War II, and with the passage of time, it still attracts numerous military strategists and historians from China and abroad to explore and write about it with its grand scale, profound connotations, and rich heritage. The "World Famous Person Illustrated Series" written by a group of young and middle-aged military historians with expertise both within and outside the military is another significant work in this regard. The "World Famous Person Illustrated Series" currently includes 15 prominent figures such as "Roosevelt," "Churchill," "Stalin," "Eisenhower," "Patton," "MacArthur," "Montgomery," "Lyautey," "De Gaulle," "Hitler," "Mussolini," "Goring," "Rommel," "Tojo," and "Yamamoto." It covers representative figures who played decisive roles in politics and military affairs on both sides during World War II.
The current world is in a period of great change. The Cold War has ended, and the bipolar has collapsed. It is possible to avoid a new world war in the foreseeable future. However, the world is far from a paradise, and the existence of hegemonism and power politics remains the main obstacle to solving issues of peace and development. Therefore, all those concerned with the international situation and future development, all young people who aspire to serve their country for peace and the happiness of the people, and all who are about to become commanders or are determined to do so should read this series. He who is not afraid of difficulties can overcome them. It is hoped that this series can provide valuable references for those with ambition and a broad readership.
George Smith Patton was born on November 11, 1885, in a family with a tradition of military and literary prowess in California, USA. At the age of 18, he entered the private Virginia Military Institute for studies and was granted a recommendation to attend West Point a year later. In June 1909, Patton graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the cavalry of the U.S. Army. In 1915, Patton was assigned as an aide to General John J. Pershing and gained his recognition, who praised him as "a true warrior!" In 1916, Pershing promoted Patton to first lieutenant, and within less than two years, he rose to the rank of colonel. In 1917, World War I broke out, and Patton followed General Pershing to France with the American Expeditionary Forces. In September 1939, World War II broke out, and the United States faced war. Patton's military talent was recognized by the U.S. Army Chief of Staff, General George C. Marshall, who considered him an outstanding commander capable of defeating the fast-moving German forces on the battlefield.
