It served as a teaching material for university Marxist theory courses and finance-related majors. The book was first published in March 1982 and has been published in five editions to date.
This book emphasizes the analysis of the fundamental theories of Marxist political economy, focusing on elucidating the laws of socio-economic development. It features a complete theoretical system, logical structure, and clear key points. The book integrates theory with practice, addressing new issues in China's socialist modernization and reform and opening-up, as well as the new characteristics and changes in contemporary capitalist economies. The sixth edition of the book was comprehensively revised in line with the spirit of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, adding substantial new content on contemporary state-monopoly capitalism, economic globalization, and international economic relations.
Particularly in the sixth edition, the section on the socialist economic system delves deeply into the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics, analyzing and discussing issues such as building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, adhering to and improving the basic socialist economic system, establishing and perfecting the socialist market economy system, and deepening China's economic system reform.
The book unifies scientific rigor, theoretical depth, and practical relevance, as well as theoretical and teaching systems, making it suitable as a textbook for universities, adult education institutions, party schools at all levels, and training programs for government officials.
