Publish Date: 1981-05-01
Features: This adaptation has made significant changes in the selection of texts and annotation style. The main points are as follows:
1. The selection of texts focuses on the works of influential philosophers or schools in history, highlighting philosophical thought materials, while other aspects are briefly covered.
2. The selection of texts pays attention to the main views of each philosopher or school while also ensuring they reflect the full scope of their systems.
3. The texts are selected as much as possible to maintain their completeness. Short but important texts are included in full, while longer ones are appropriately excerpted.
4. All selected texts have been annotated concisely. The annotations primarily explain terms and phrases, with occasional explanations for difficult sentences. The translations of pre-Qin and Han Dynasty texts have been entirely removed. For annotations that utilize previous research, references are omitted to save space.
5. Before each selected text, a "Brief Introduction to Historical Materials" is included, explaining the source of the text, relevant versions, and important annotations, to assist students in further reading of the original works of the philosophers.
