Features: In the early 20th century, Xu Baoqiang, the founder of Chinese journalism studies, defined the discipline in his seminal work "Journalism" (referred to as a "groundbreaking" work by) as follows: "A journalist who studies journalism aims to cultivate good journalists and guide the journalism industry onto the right track." He lamented, "As this field flourishes, humanity benefits more from the journalism industry, and the importance of this field is evident." Under the impact of postmodernism, "truth" is increasingly degraded to "opinion," and "thought" is gradually transformed into "viewpoint." In contemporary China, attempts to "construct" systems through "grand narratives" seem unfashionable, while instead, the sharp glint of "deconstructive" scalpels is strikingly prominent. Compared to "constructing" systems, "deconstructing" is undoubtedly easier, as it does not need to prove itself. However, "deconstruction" must first confront the established "structures." Have contemporary Chinese journalism and journalism education truly established their own theoretical and disciplinary systems? This series, titled "Contemporary Journalism and Communication Studies," naturally faces this complex yet vibrant era, the Chinese journalism industry currently undergoing difficult transformation and reform. Therefore, the views presented in this series strive to incorporate the latest research findings in academia, the content aims to reflect the highest standards of contemporary journalism studies, and the cited examples are all new and representative cases to highlight the "contemporary" theme. In today's society, the maximum function of "journalism" relies on "communication." In this sense, the journalism industry is also a communication enterprise. We neither aim to replace journalism with communication studies nor to exclude communication studies from journalism. The term "journalism and communication studies" as we use it refers to the full name of both disciplines, with the intention of including some content that traditional journalism studies struggles to accommodate.
