Features: To adapt to the development of piano teaching in higher music (normal) colleges, the Central Conservatory of Music Press, newly established in 2003, initiated a joint editorial meeting for the "Graded Piano Teaching Materials for Higher Music (Normal) Colleges." Led by the Piano Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, the meeting brought together 14 professors from top music institutions across the country with rich teaching experience. Through the dedicated efforts of over 20 teachers on the editorial committee (providing pieces and writing performance notes, etc.), as well as the careful review by the chief editor, Professor Yang Ming, and associate editors, Professor Li Xin and Professor Chen Zaifeng, this six-volume piano textbook was finally published before the new semester in 2004. The decision to structure the in graded levels was made to accommodate the varying piano foundations and learning needs of college music students. In the selection of pieces and the writing of performance notes, emphasis was placed on conciseness and practicality. The level was designed to align with social examination syllabi (levels 1–8, corresponding to volumes 1–4) while also addressing the needs of students aiming for a professional piano career (levels 9–10, corresponding to volumes 5–6). Each level includes: basic exercises, etudes, polyphonic pieces, and general pieces (including four-hand piano pieces). The repertoire range of this textbook is suitable for piano students in various music colleges, excluding those in independent music conservatories with piano as their primary major. It serves as both a piano teaching curriculum and an important benchmark for assessing students' piano proficiency. Institutions using this textbook are recommended to issue certificates for students who pass the corresponding level exams, providing a credible basis for societal evaluation of their piano performance skills for future professional careers. This textbook is open and evolving, and it will be continuously revised and improved in subsequent editions based on the needs of its users. Building on the strengths of other textbooks, this one highlights two key features: 1. It is a progressive teaching textbook. During our travels for lectures, we found that many teachers in remote areas face challenges in selecting appropriate. 2. It is a specific, concise, and practical teaching methods textbook.
