Features: This book studies the thought of Taihu from the perspective of Yogacara philosophy. There are two main reasons for this approach:
1. Chinese Buddhist studies primarily focus on Yogacara philosophy. Yogacara not only constitutes the main theoretical pillars of modern Chinese Buddhism but also influenced the course of modern Chinese philosophy and thought. Leading institutions such as the Chinese College of Indology (headed by Ouyang Jingwu), the Wuchang Buddhist College (headed by Taihu), and the Beijing Three Periods Society (headed by Han Qingjing) achieved significant accomplishments in Yogacara studies, forming the three major traditions of modern Yogacara philosophy. Taihu's Yogacara tradition shares both common characteristics and notable differences with the other two traditions in terms of value orientation, research methods, and the construction of Buddhist systems.
2. The study and research of Yogacara philosophy not only spanned almost the entire Buddhist academic career of Taihu but also served as a tool for him to interpret various Buddhist schools of thought and evaluate and explain diverse cultural ideas. This book categorizes Taihu's Yogacara philosophy into "Integrated Yogacara," "New Yogacara," and "Applied Yogacara." "Integrated Yogacara" refers to the intellectual methodology and thinking tendency that seeks to harmonize Yogacara philosophy with the ideas of various Buddhist schools, covering topics such as Yogacara and doctrinal classification, Yogacara and the Lengye Sutra, Yogacara and the Awakening of Faith, and Yogacara and Dharmalaksana.
