Zhuge Liang is known as the Eastern Strategist. To this day, he remains a mystery—how could he, under the social conditions of his time, orchestrate strategies and achieve decisive victories across thousands of miles, which seemed almost unbelievable! This book aims to unravel this mystery for readers, showing how the seemingly leisurely Zhuge Liang, with his feather fan and silk turban, was so composed!
Zhuge Liang had a legendary life. Since 207 AD, when he accepted Liu Bei's invitation and joined the political stage, he never returned to his hometown of Longzhong. In 208 AD, when Cao Cao led his troops to attack Jingzhou, Zhuge Liang followed Liu Bei in retreat to Xiuhui. In the midst of the defeated army and dire circumstances, Zhuge Liang bravely represented Liu Bei to East Wu, debated with the scholars, forged the alliance between Sun and Liu, securing the victory in the Battle of Red Cliffs, and helping Liu Bei conquer the four prefectures of Jingzhou, directly leading to the formation of the Three Kingdoms. In 221 AD, Liu Bei declared himself emperor in Chengdu, and Zhuge Liang was appointed as the Prime Minister. After Liu Bei's death, Zhuge Liang took charge of state affairs, enforcing strict laws, forging alliances with Sun Quan, and leading six expeditions against Wei until his death in battle at Wuzhangyuan in 234 AD, at the age of 54. Zhuge Liang was indeed a legendary figure in Chinese history. With his unique wit and intelligence, he managed to outmaneuver formidable rivals (such as the brilliant strategist Cao Cao and Zhou Yu) as if they were clowns, as if the changes of heaven and earth were already within his grasp. His wisdom and the spirit of "dedicating oneself to the cause until death" have always been respected and admired by people.
