Features: The Autobiography of Culture is a "confession" from a famous contemporary Chinese intellectual, full of grievances, hence the phrase "confessing without being accused." The collection includes cultural interviews with renowned figures such as Ba Jin, Yang Jiang, Zhang Dainian, Feng Yidai, Zhou Ruchang, Huang Miaozi, Zhang Zhongxing, Jia Lanpo, Mao Yushi, Wang Xiaochun, and Feng Jicai. However, both Zhang Dainian and Jia Lanpo passed away before the book's publication, making these perhaps their "last interviews" with the media, adding a sense of remembrance. The interviews cover life experiences, attitudes toward life, academic careers, love and marriage, as well as interests and collections, all imbued with the temperament and cultural ideals of Chinese intellectuals. The editor hopes to present the inner journey of contemporary Chinese intellectuals through these conversations.
