1. Editorial Intent and Scope of Application
For a long time, the display and classification of books in bookstores in China have been in a rough and arbitrary state, with significant variations in quality. To a certain extent, this has affected readers' purchasing decisions and the efficiency of bookstore staff, as well as the improvement of service levels, ultimately impacting the overall quality, accuracy, and image of bookstores. The intention behind compiling this book is to provide references for numerous book retail businesses in improving bookstore display and classification. Additionally, the book serves as a guide for readers in selecting book categories and can also offer some assistance to book topic planners.
2. Editorial Basis and Content Explanation
The primary basis for this book is the "Chinese Library Classification" (CLC) cataloging data for books in print and relevant national standards (see Appendix), combined with the characteristics of bookstore displays and readers' purchasing habits, as well as extensive experience drawn from the book retail industry. The book introduces the display and classification methods for major publications—paperback books, audio-visual products, electronic publications, and periodicals. For newspapers, microform images, braille publications, and pictures, brief introductions are provided within certain category names in the classification table, without the creation of separate tables.
