Features: This book will address our common difficulties, meet our shared needs, and fulfill our collective dreams. It offers a correct understanding of English and truly reveals the intrinsic patterns of the English language, simplifying the complex and making the difficult easy. Starting with simple English knowledge, it progresses step by step. It encourages truly thinking and perceiving in English, expressing, and learning English, achieving a natural transition from "Chinese" to "English." It breaks the conventional way of learning English through "dual shaping" to filter out "known" and "unknown" aspects; through "bidirectional" learning, it ensures that knowledge is integrated, allowing readers to generalize and save time, effort, and achieve efficiency.
During the process of learning English, the study and mastery of spoken English are particularly important. Spoken language is one of the primary forms of language existence. It is the ultimate goal of language learning and an essential means for people to express their thoughts and communicate. For beginners learning spoken English, the greatest challenge is the lack of understanding of English expression habits. To help English learners improve their spoken English expression skills, we have selected 600 of the most commonly used high-frequency core spoken English expressions frequently used by people in English-speaking countries, editing them into this book in the hope of benefiting a wide range of English learners.
This book includes fixed idioms, polite expressions, and common colloquialisms (excluding outdated phrases, slang, and jargon). In terms of layout, it strives to be concise, clear, and distinctive. The main text includes typical example sentences, definitions, and additional examples. In terms of teaching methods, it not only helps readers learn spoken English easily and efficiently but also enables them to grasp it flexibly and firmly, apply it, and achieve practical results.
(1) Typical example sentences are used to introduce the expressions being introduced. The expressions selected here are all high-frequency, commonly used core spoken English expressions. For example: "I really had a ball at your party." (I had a great time at your party! In this sentence, "have a ball" (have a good time, enjoy oneself) is a very common spoken English expression.
(2) In the definitions, the usage, precautions, synonyms, and antonyms of these spoken expressions are explained and described precisely. For example: "I'm not about to go out shopping in all this rain." (With this kind of rain, I'm definitely not going to go shopping.) Definition: This phrase does not merely mean the negative form of "be about to do something." The affirmative form means "do it right now," and the negative form does not mean "not doing it right now" but expresses strong opposition: "there is absolutely no intention of doing it." In addition to the detailed explanation of the definitions, each entry is accompanied by rich example sentences, allowing readers to generalize and deeply understand, truly master, and flexibly apply the expressions.
(3) Most of the example sentences in this book come from English and American newspapers, broadcasts, novels, etc., breaking free from the grammatical patterns in English textbooks. The expressions are flexible, vivid, reliable, accurate, and authoritative. Each entry in the book is self-contained, helping readers improve their English level and speak English naturally and authentically.
