Building on other tutorials, this one highlights two major features: 1. It is a step-by-step teaching book. During our lectures in various regions, we found many teachers in remote areas faced issues with textbook selection. 2. It is a practical and concise book of teaching methods. To adapt to the development of piano teaching in higher music (normal) colleges, the Central Conservatory of Music Press, newly established in 2003, initiated a joint effort led by the Piano Department of the conservatory, uniting 14 professors with rich teaching experience from across the country. They held the editorial meeting for the Graded Piano Tutorial for Higher Music (Normal) Colleges. Through the dedicated work of over 20 teachers on the editorial committee (providing pieces and writing performance notes, etc.) and the careful review by the chief editor Yang Ming, associate editors Li Xin, and Chen Zaifeng, this six-volume piano textbook was finally published before the new semester in 2004. The reason for structuring this textbook in a graded format is to consider the differences in piano foundations and learning needs among college music students.
