Features: "A small cliff, two big masks." Similar sentences often appear in my mind. They are meaningless, light as flowers that bloom alone in a valley visited by a lady. For example, there was a year when I traveled to unknown places in Yunnan. Whenever I felt happy, I would recall such sentences as "Salute to Mallarmé." At that time, I didn’t even know there was a writer named Mallarmé. "Mallarmé" was just an obscure entry, and my "salute" to "Mallarmé"—why should I be "saluting" "Mallarmé"—I myself couldn’t even explain it. Later, I reflected on such situations many times. Why do such sentences suddenly appear in my mind? My conclusion was: we may still possess a mysterious linguistic world of which we are completely unaware.
