Features: This is a large-scale medical reference book, based on the world-famous medical dictionary Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary and using the medical terms published by the National Commission on Terminology of Natural Sciences as the naming basis. It has been significantly revised compared to the first edition. The original Pinyin romanization has been removed, allowing the content and information volume to increase by 30% without expanding the word count. The Chinese-English Medical Dictionary is one of five major medical dictionaries compiled by the Ministry of Health, including the Chinese-English, Chinese-French, Chinese-German, Chinese-Japanese, and Chinese-Russian editions. Since its publication in 1987, the first edition of The Chinese-English Medical Dictionary has been reprinted multiple times and has received praise from a broad readership. Sixteen years after its publication, with the rapid development of medical science and technology and the ever-expanding scope of research, new disciplines, theories, concepts, and technologies have continuously emerged, leading to the creation of numerous new terms. To adapt to the progress of medical science and technology and meet the needs of readers both domestically and internationally, the writing committee for the second edition of The Chinese-English Medical Dictionary was established under the leadership of the Ministry of Health in 2000, commencing the revision work for the first edition.
