Features: This book is a supplementary textbook designed to accompany "News Writing Tutorial" (published by Renmin University of China Press in March 2002). Therefore, in terms of content and reporting methods, we have selected some outstanding news works with a focus, largely following the chapter sequence of "News Writing Tutorial," for teaching purposes. Additionally, this book also includes some professional news masterpieces in the news section, such as personality news, science and technology news, economic news, as well as the contemporary popular "precision news." Furthermore, a small number of works by Western journalists are included, most of which are selected from "Reference News," sponsored by Xinhua News Agency, to broaden our scope of appreciation. For some specific themes, works by different authors are also selected for comparative study. To leave more room for readers' reflection, the book does not provide detailed critiques of each news work but adopts an alternative approach—grouped comprehensive hints. These hints either explain the characteristics of a certain genre or point out a general scope of thought, with one selected work in each group briefly analyzed for writing methods as a reference for learning. We hope readers will discover more on their own. Most of the works included in this book are from the past 10 years, with special attention given to selecting new works from the past two or three years, while also retaining a small number of classic pieces from earlier periods. Overall, the works are arranged in a sequence from recent to older.
