Chinese History Learning and Research

Author: Tang Zuofan

Publication Date: 2001-12-01
Features: This book selects 24 articles written by the author since the 1950s, most of which are on phonology, as it has been my research direction for over 40 years. The phonology articles are divided into categories such as the history of phonology, the history of regional phonology, and the application of phonology. I have studied and researched little on the history of grammar and vocabulary. In the early 1960s, due to teaching needs, I taught three "Chinese Language History" courses for the 1957, 1958, and 1959 grades of the Chinese Language Department at Peking University, based on Wang Lì's Draft of the History of the Chinese Language. I also wrote the article "The Origin of the Third-Person Pronoun 'His'" during that time. After the Cultural Revolution, I focused on teaching "The History of Chinese Phonology." From the early 1980s to the mid-1990s, I taught this course multiple times and continuously revised my lecture notes. Although it's said that even an unattractive bride must eventually meet her in-laws, further refinement still requires time.
