Monet (1840–1926) was a French landscape painter of the mid-to-late 19th and early 20th centuries, and one of the most important founders of Impressionism. In his youth, Monet studied under the landscape painter Boudin, inheriting the concepts of outdoor sketching, Impressionist painting, and color expression. Later, he was influenced by Courbet and earlier masters such as Turner and Constable. Under extremely difficult living conditions, he pioneered the Impressionist style. His late works, such as Water Lilies, have become one of the sources of modern abstract art. Monet's outstanding contributions to painting art have made him one of the greatest masters in the history of art.
