Features: Practice and Theory of the TEM-4 Test is meticulously compiled in strict accordance with the requirements of the Newly Revised Syllabus for TEM-4 and the Teaching Syllabus for English Majors in Higher Education. Its purpose is to help English majors at the undergraduate basic stage master grammar knowledge, expand vocabulary, become proficient in reading and writing skills, improve listening comprehension, and pass the TEM-4 test smoothly through extensive simulation training and theoretical introductions. The book is divided into eight chapters:
Chapter 1 is on language testing theory, mainly covering the importance of language testing, the main types of tests, and testing principles. This section provides a comprehensive, systematic, and progressive introduction and discussion of the main theories and practices of language testing both domestically and internationally.
Chapter 2 focuses on writing theory, writing techniques, and writing exercises.
Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 are on the theory and practice of improving listening skills.
Chapter 5 is on the theoretical guidance and practice exercises for cloze tests.
Chapter 6 is on the theoretical guidance and exercises for grammar and vocabulary.
Chapter 7 is on the skill guidance and practical training for reading.
Chapter 8 is a collection of full-length simulation tests for the TEM-4.
The principles of the book's compilation are as follows:
(1) The theoretical guidance section first clarifies the specific requirements of the teaching syllabus and the examination syllabus for the five indicators of the TEM-4—listening, vocabulary and grammar, reading comprehension, cloze, and writing. It then provides detailed introductions and analyses of common issues and test-taking techniques in each part of the exam.
(2) To help students achieve proficiency in each skill and better grasp the characteristics and techniques of solving problems, each chapter of the theoretical guidance section includes carefully selected test exercises related to the unit, enabling students to achieve the effect of learning by example and applying knowledge to similar situations. The selection of these exercises aims to reflect the spirit and requirements of the teaching syllabus and to be highly targeted.
(3) The simulation test section is selected by the authors to provide students with a relatively realistic simulation test experience. After students have a clear understanding of the theoretical and practical requirements of the TEM-4, this section serves as practical exercises for them.
The book is compiled with the student in mind. The theoretical introductions are concise, clear, and well-organized, making them easy for students to understand, apply, and remember. The book can be used by English majors preparing for the TEM-4, as well as by candidates for other English exams as a reference book.
