Features: To systematically and comprehensively reflect the latest progress in China's financial development and financial reform, and to showcase the latest achievements in China's financial theory research, the Institute of Finance at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has decided to regularly compile several annual publications starting from 2004. China Financial Development Report (hereinafter referred to as the Report) is one of such series publications; Report (2004) is a part of this report series. Each year's Report includes one annual report and four quarterly reports. The annual report is officially published and distributed by the publisher, while the quarterly reports are published on the website of the Institute of Finance. We position the Report as "recording facts" and "providing objective comments." Therefore, the data is detailed, systematic, comprehensive, and authoritative, with concepts and analytical frameworks that comply with academic standards and formats that align with international practices. These are the basic requirements we strive to meet. The annual Report consists of three main parts. Part I is the analysis of financial operations, the essence of which lies in providing empirical data. We will systematically record the facts of China's financial industry development and reform in the current year from aspects such as monetary policy, the financial sector (due to its extensive content, it is further divided into "Banking" and "Other Financial Institutions" as subcategories), financial markets, balance of payments, and international financial markets, along with brief comments. The second part is the analysis of economic operations, the essence of which also lies in recording facts. On one hand, we will summarize the conditions of the macroeconomic operation in the current year from perspectives such as savings, investment, consumption, imports and exports, prices, income, and fiscal revenue and expenditure; on the other hand, we will select several key industries to analyze their current status and future development. The third part is thematic analysis. We will organize some papers to conduct systematic theoretical analysis around hot issues and major events that have occurred in macroeconomics, monetary policy, financial regulation, financial markets, and international finance over a period of time. Most of these articles are completed by researchers of the Institute of Finance, but the views in the articles are the responsibility of the respective authors.
