Features: The Year of the Monkey is considered a "promote to marquis" auspicious year. In classical culture, its imagery represents the meaning of being enfeoffed as a marquis, symbolizing good fortune, success, and grand ambitions. A monkey climbing a ginkgo tree and hanging an official seal signifies "promote to marquis and hang the seal"; a monkey riding a horse represents "promote to marquis on horseback"; two monkeys sitting on a pine tree, or one monkey riding on the back of another, symbolizes "generation after generation of promotion to marquis."
