Features: The Dictionary of Financial Law is a newly developed dictionary primarily aimed at students, researchers, and practitioners in the fields of finance and law. It covers multiple areas such as banking, securities, insurance, negotiable instruments, foreign exchange, and trust. Focusing on China, the dictionary provides a concise introduction to domestic financial law concepts and related rules, while also including some universally applicable international financial terms. In terms of content sources, it is based on existing legal regulations, while also incorporating legal theories and practical innovations. The overall style is designed to be accurate, clear, and concise. Compared to general legal dictionaries or financial law dictionaries, this dictionary has three prominent features and advantages: timeliness, detail, and convenience.
First, the selection of entries and the writing of content are closely tied to timeliness, reflecting the rapidly evolving developments in the field of financial law. For example, China's QFII (Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor) system, introduced in November 2002 and implemented in September 2003, and the Fund Management Law, passed in October 2003, are all included in this dictionary.
Second, the content of each entry not only includes an interpretation (interpretation) of the term itself but also further explanations (explanation), which provide a brief introduction to China's relevant rules and development status, making the dictionary serve as both a research index and a practical guide. For instance, whening the entry "Fund Management," readers can not only understand the meaning of the term but also learn that all fund management in China is trust-based and gain insights into the relevant provisions of the Fund Management Law.
Finally, except for a few terms with overly strong local characteristics, each entry includes an English equivalent, and terms of the same category or corresponding terms are cross-referenced using "See also" to facilitate multi-angle queries and comprehensive understanding. For example, whening the entry "Order Bill of Lading," readers will find references to "Bearer Bill of Lading" and "Order Bill of Lading" under the "See also" section, and vice versa.
All entries are sorted by the Pinyin of the Chinese term, and a classified index is provided for categorization by financial business, offering dual search functions for readers to choose based on their preferences and needs.
The arrangement of entries follows the following rules:
1. Entries are sorted by the Pinyin of the Chinese term. First, terms with one character in their Pinyin are sorted by initial consonant order. For example, "Second Board Market" and "Fund Issuance." If the initial consonants are the same, then by final vowel order, such as "Legal Shares" and "Non-Tradable Shares." If the final vowels are also the same, then by tone order, such as "Issuer" and "Legal Interest Rate." If the Pinyin of the first character is identical, the second character's Pinyin is used for sorting, following the same rules. For example, "Required Reserve Ratio" and "Legal Shares," and so on.
2. For terms that are of the same category or correspond to each other and need to be understood together but are separated due to sorting, "See also" is added at the end of the interpretation for cross-reference to facilitate. For example, "Offshore Banking" and "Onshore Banking." If corresponding terms are not separated, "See also" is not listed, such as "On-Balance Sheet Business" and "Off-Balance Sheet Business."
3. For terms whose content is fully explained in other entries, no separate interpretation is provided, and they are directly referred to as "See," such as "'Underwriting': See 'Securities Underwriting.'"
