This book argues that the essence of curriculum reform is a shift from a fully predetermined, monopolized, and closed directive curriculum to a generative, open, and personalized new curriculum. Against this backdrop of curriculum paradigm transformation, directive Chinese language courses and their teaching naturally tend to disintegrate. The author examines the basic trends of mother tongue curriculum reform in countries around the world and reviews the evolution of the value of Chinese language education under the influence of foreign educational thoughts over the past century. He convincingly predicts that under the impact of new theories in Chinese language teaching, Chinese language teaching will inevitably move toward liberation. Taking issues in Chinese language lesson plans as a breakthrough point and updating the essence of Chinese language classrooms as the overarching framework, the author provides a detailed discussion on various aspects, including reading instruction, writing instruction, oral communication teaching, teachers' research methods, and students' learning methods. Thus, he offers Chinese language teachers implementing the new curriculum with rich, practical, and inspiring new teaching ideas.
