They appear simple yet are full of creativity. — Kunio Yanagida Only when you have tried every possible way of expression and explored every place should you stop. — Bruno Munari Those who study literature should write beautifully with words, just as those who study design must make their works stand out. Handling text and images requires extraordinary techniques to achieve exceptional beauty. The saying "experts see the subtleties, while laypeople see the spectacle" is something every designer involved in visual communication has experienced: layout is not an easy task, and it is not simpler than conceiving a creative idea. Creating a reasonable visual structure is easy, but creating a layout that is truly eye-catching is very difficult. What is the underlying principle? What is the mystery behind the arrangement of text and images on paper? Do paper, printing methods, and color handling all influence the expression of visual effects? The answer is definitely yes. A meaningful visual activity must be interpretable by human visual perception in terms of the relationships between elements. For layout designers, this involves two aspects: first, an understanding of the layout elements themselves; second, whether there is an appropriate arrangement among the elements. The elements of layout design include: text, graphics (images, symbols, textures, etc.), and the medium. The understanding process of the elements determines the form and expressiveness of layout design. The relationships between elements mainly refer to: the division of two-dimensional space, sense of hierarchy (visual three-dimensional space), and the physical spatial form of the medium. Flexible handling of these spatial relationships will directly affect the impact of the layout work. In reality, the key to layout is to abstract all layout elements, and the essential activity is the arrangement and combination of points, lines, and planes in a certain space. At the same time, every layout design should fulfill a certain information transmission function, and different design categories should have different requirements and characteristics. This book will start from the fundamentals and organizational principles of layout elements, use a large number of selected examples for intuitive appreciation, strive to discard inherent aesthetic habits and tendencies, focus on the word "creativity," emphasize style, and highlight individuality.
